Marcella Marie Thul, age 81, of Clarion, passed away Wednesday (Sept. 27, 2006) at the USA Healthcare Center in Clarion, Iowa. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 2, at St John's Catholic Church with Father. Chris Podhajsky officiating. Burial will be at St John's Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be held today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ewing Dugger Helgeson Funeral Home, 602 N. Main St., Clarion, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. A recitation of the rosary will be held at 6:45 p.m. today with a Scripture service following at the Ewing Dugger Helgeson Funeral Home.
Marcella Thul, daughter of James and Louisa (Wellik) Vrba, was born on April 7, 1925, on a farm near Duncan, Iowa. Marcella attended school through the eighth grade and later received her G.E.D. On Feb. 11, 1946, Marcella was united in marriage to Paul Leo Thul at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church near Duncan, Iowa. This union was blessed with two daughters, Pauline and Nancy. Marcella enjoyed dancing, cooking and canning, but above all she loved her children and grandchildren, making quilts for each of them. Marcella worked at the Pioneer plant, where she de-tasseled corn with her daughters, Dodger Enterprises in Eagle Grove, HH & B golf bag factory, and cooked at the nursing home and hospital in Clarion. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and St. John's Alter Society.
Marcella is survived by her two daughters, Pauline Turner of Clarion, Iowa, and Nancy (Kevin) Prochaska of Kennesaw, Ga.; six grandchildren, Dan Turner of Northwood, N.D., Mary (Daryl) Janek of Burlington, Vt., and Cassie, Sarah, Heather, and Thomas Prochaska all of Kennesaw, Ga.; and one great-grandson, Michael Turner, of Mounds View, Minn. Marcella was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Thul; and her parents, James and Louisa Vrba. Ewing Dugger Helgeson Funeral Home.
