Alice Hughes Missildine-Keil, died September 26, 2006 at First Community Village Healthcare Center, Columbus, Ohio after a brief illness. She was born May 15, 1914 to Harold Demott Hughes and Lulu Lego Hughes in Ames, Iowa. She attended Western College for Women and graduated from Iowa State University where her father was a faculty member. Alice taught English in Eagle Grove, Iowa, where she met her husband, Whitney Hugh Missildine, M.D. They were married Christmas Eve, 1940 and moved to Columbus in 1949. After Hugh's death, she married John Dunn Keil in 1990 and moved to Titusville, FL, for 12 years. In Columbus, Alice was an active and long-time supporter of The Buckeye Ranch since its inception. She was a charter member of the Women's Guild of The Columbus Museum of Art and served on the Governing Board of First Community Church, where she was a member of Group Y and Couples Circle 1. She was also an active supporter of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, The Ohio State University Medical Service Board and the James Cancer Hospital, as well as a member of PEO Sisterhood. In addition to her husbands and her parents, her brothers Daniel and John Hughes precede her in death. Alice is survived by children, Nancy (Michael) Donaldson and Daniel (Kathryn) Missildine; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Elizabeth) and M. Scott Donaldson (fiancee Jennifer Marcus), Nathaniel (Cecile), Whitney, and Nina Missildine; great-grandchildren, Julie and Louise Missildine and Mia Donaldson. A loving wife, mother and grandmother and a generous friend to many, Alice enjoyed gathering with family and friends, traveling, reading and music. She lived a full life and will be sorely missed. Special thanks to the staff and friends at The Forum and the First Community Village Healthcare Center for their good care. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2006 in Burkhart Chapel at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd., arrangements by SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL. Contributions may be made to any of the above-named charities.
