Harriet Frey Kramer, 93, joined Our Lord and Savior on Monday, August 30, 2004, Harriett peacefully passed away in the company of loved ones at Wesley Acres in Des Moines where she resided. Born the daughter of Martin and Mina (Fothergill) Frey on July 23,1911, in Eagle Grove, IA. She was a graduate of University of Iowa and moved to Des Moines in 1988 from Munster, IN. Harriett is best remembered for her keen wit and positive attitude, love of travel and the French language, absolute passion for learning and word games, enjoyment of reading and University of Iowa Hawkeye basketball. She assisted with the Red Cross effort in England during World War II, and was active in the West Des Moines United Methodist Church, P.E.O. Chapter LL Des Moines, Des Moines Art Center, Indiana Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Delta Sorority, Aretas Temple #153, and Daughters of the Nile.
Husband Willis W. Kramer preceded Harriett in death in 1977. Also, her sisters, Mrs. Benjamin (Gertrude) Kilgore in 1993, and Mrs. Loren (Marian F.) Jones in 2001 and her long-time companion Milton O. Riepe, Esq. in 1996. Survivors include: stepdaughter, Mrs.Max (Shirley Kramer) Kietzer of Hartford, MI; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; her nephews, Benjamin (Char) Kilgore III of Lakeville, MN and Douglas (Linda) Kilgore of Apple Valley, MN; her niece,Kathryn Kilgore Rust of Fairfield, CT and their families. She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by the families of Mr. Rock (Karen) Kieter of St.Joseph, MI, and Mr.Michael (Kathy Kramer) Coduti of Munster,IN. As well as, her nieces and nephews of the Willis W. Kramer family. Family and friends will be received at a Christian graveside service at 2:30 p.m. Friday, September 3,2004, at Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond,IN. A Memorial service will be held at Wesley Acres at a later date. Memorials may be made to the PEO Sisterhood, 3700 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50312 or the Wesley Acres Good Samaritan Fund, 3520 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50312.
