Douglas Dean Glassel, age 67, of Danbury, Iowa, died Monday, July 3, 2000, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa. Memorial services were held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 6, at Our Lady of Good Council in Holstein, Iowa, with Msgr. Mark Duchaine officiating. Arrangements were made under the direction of the Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home of Ida Grove.

Born September 22, 1932, in Iowa City, Iowa, Douglas was the son of Roy and Alberta (Peters) Glassel. His boyhood was spent in the Clarion and Belmond areas. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. On June 16, 1955, he married Joan Uhl in Sioux City. The couple was later divorced. Doug worked for Bekins Company in Sioux City and Omaha for many years. Following his retirement, he worked part-time in Holstein at the Good Samaritan Center, Lohff-Schuman Memorial Community Center, and at V.T. Industries. He was a member of the Eagle's Club in Omaha, and in his spare time enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing, playing bingo, and keeping up with current events. Survivors include his good friend, Joan Glassel of Danbury; one son and his wife, Ricky and Bonnie Knutson of Sioux City; five daughters and their husbands, Linda Glassel of Coralville, Chris and Don Schable of Hubbard, Peggy and Jimmy Rykhus of Boulder City, Nevada, Diane and Dale Jenkins, and Janet and David Schmidt, all of Ida Grove; 13 grandchildren, Alicia and Demetria Knutson, Katie Glassel, Amanda Beery and her husband, Todd, Allie Jo and Joshua Schable, Erica Glassel, Corey and Malana Hansen, Zachary, Derie and Kiley Regennitter, and Dustin Schmidt; and one great-grandchild, Allie Marie Beery. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John Glassel; a granddaughter, Rhianna Glassel; and a great-granddaughter, Mariah Glassel.
