Lila Ferne Carpenter, 97, died Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at Hamilton County Hospital, Webster City. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Willim Funeral Home in Clarion with Pastor Tim Platt of the Church of Christ officiating and Gary Brandt singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Morning Has Broken." Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Lila Ferne Carpenter was born Oct. 13, 1903, the daughter of Brutus Tudor and Anna Mae (Montgomery) Tudor, at New Canton, Ill. Lila lived most of her life in Wright County, Iowa. On Dec. 20, 1958, she married Joseph Howard Carpenter in Webster City. Two children were born to this union. Howard and Lila farmed in Wright County until Howard's death in 1958. Lila was an active member of the Church of Christ in Webster City and Clarion, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Plantaganet Society, the Hugenot Society, the Webster City Women's Club and the League of Women Voters. She moved to Webster City in 1970.

She is survived by her daughter, Betty Hill and her husband, Lowell, of Urbana, Ill., a daughter, Bonnie Cook of Rowan; a sister, Anna Mae Hansen of Manchester; a brother, Woodrow Tudor of Arlington, Texas; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Lila was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister. Willim Funeral Home.
