Robert James Harris, 76, 1896 Sandy Beach Road, Lake Cornelia, was with his family at home when he passed away and began a new life with the Lord on Dec. 2, 2000. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Clarion United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Chuck Kellogg officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Willim Funeral Home, 602 N. Main St. in Clarion.
Bob was born on Dec. 7, 1923 at Rowan, Iowa, to Rolland and Jessie (Allen) Harris. Growing up, Bob lived near Rowan and Alexander, attending school at Rowan. After graduation he started farming with his parents. On Jan. 6, 1945, he volunteered to serve his Country by enlisting into the United States Army. He served with the 11th Airborne Division and was stationed in the Philippines, Korea and Japan until being discharged on Nov. 26, 1946. He was united in marriage to Emily Mattingly on June 19, 1948, in Clarion, Iowa. Bob and Emily moved to Ackworth, Iowa, in 1954 to farm before returning in 1960 to purchase a farm between Olaf and Kanawha. He remained on the farm until moving to Lake Cornelia in 1976.
Family members remaining to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Emily, of Lake Cornelia; four children and spouses, Gary and his wife, Marcia, of Belmond, Vicki and her husband, Dan, of Clear Lake, Christi and her husband, Bill, of Kanawha, and Lori and her husband, Don, of Pelham, N.H. Ten grandchildren and spouses with special memories are Valerie and husband, Brent Bryant, of Ames, Jeff Harris, of Belmond, Angie Harris, of Ames, Amy Jackson, of Kalamazoo, Mich., Emily Jackson, of Clear Lake, Brandi Broshar, of St. Paul, Minn., Brad Broshar and his wife, Stephanie, of Kanawha, Ryan Broshar, of Kanawha, Nicole and Michelle Lemieux, of Pelham, N.H. Bob leaves two sisters, Ardyce Bailey and husband, Kenneth, of Rowan, Lois Johnson, of West Des Moines; one brother, Merle Harris and his wife, Jacque, of Walhalla, S.C. Preceding him were his parents, Rolland and Jessie Harris; and brother-in-law, Robert Johnson. Memorials may be given in his name to Hospice of Wright County. Willim Funeral Home.
