LYMAN ANDREW PERRY -
2 Jan 1857 - 4 March 1942Lyman Andrew Perry was born in Perryville, Tioga County, New York, January 2, 1857. His father, Channey Perry, being a Barge Captain, his early boyhood was spent on the Erie Canal. At the age of eight he came with an uncle to Wright County, Iowa, where with the exception of eight years living near Wyndall, Minn,, he continued to live, settling in Clarion in 1909. From 1913 to 1929 he was employed by the Chicago Great Western in the baggage and freight department.
On Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1877, he was united in marriage to Sarah Elizabeth Walton. To this union seven children were born, four boys and three girls. His wife, Sarah, three daughters, Kitty Jane Perry, Mrs. Mary Bradley, Mrs. Clara Lord, and one son, Arthur W. Perry, preceded him in death.
In 1927, he and Mrs. Perry observed their 50th wedding anniversary. Since his wife's death he has made his home, during the winter months with his son Ralph of Council Bluffs, and through the summer with his son, Shirley of Clarion.
On March 4th, after a several weeks illness, he passed away at the Mercy Hospital, Council Bluffs at the age of 85 years, 2 months, and 2 days.
Mr. Perry is survived by three sons; Ralph A. of Council Bluffs, Ray R. of Oelwein and Shirley L. of Clarion; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, many other relatives and a host of friends.
He was a member of the First Methodist church of Clarion, as long as his health permitted, he attended the church services. He was a good and kind husband and father; a conscientious citizen of affable character. Relatives and friends will miss him.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 1:45 at the Eyler Funeral home and at 2:00 p.m. at the First Methodist church.
