Rolf S. Lund 1917-2001

FOREST CITY , Iowa - Rolf S. Lund , 83 , of Forest City , Iowa , died on Friday , Feb. 23 , 2001 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah , Iowa. He was born in Wanamingo [MN] on Sept. 7, 1917 , the son of J.O. and Stella (Swenson) Lund. He received his early education in Goodhue County schools and graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1936. He continued his education at St. Olaf College in Northfield, receiving his degree in 1940. He began teaching and coaching in Rake, Iowa. It was there that he met Bernice Koltvet and on August 6, 1944 they were married at the Holmes Lutheran Church in Holmes, Iowa. In 1946 Rolf joined the faculty at Waldorf College in Forest City. He earned his Masters Degree in 1952 from the University of Minnesota. Rolf would teach and coach at Waldorf for the next 36 years, until his retirement in 1982. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church , serving on the council and on several committees. He was an avid reader, enjoyed working outdoors and was very involved with the efforts to establish a Senior Center in Forest City. Rolf loved attending sporting events and treasured time spent with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter, Marcia (Del) Johnson of Fergus Falls ; two sons, Mark (Sonya) of Decorah and Stephen (Mary) Lund of Norfolk, Neb.; one sister , Galene Berg of Zumbrota ; eight grandchildren ; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Bernice, who died in 1997. Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 26 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, Iowa with the Rev. Stephen Lund and the Rev. Lee Laaveg officiating.
