Katherine Arne was born June 26, 1916, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Nels and Julia (Jorgenson) Arne. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1934. Katherine attended junior college in Eagle Grove for one year and then A.I.B. in Des Moines. After college, she began work at a local insurance office in Eagle Grove. Katherine was united in marriage with Kenneth Lalor at Eagle Grove. They lived in the same house where she had grown up. She clerked in a dress shop and at the dime store. While Kenny was serving in the war, Katherine worked as a secretary at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. After returning to Eagle Grove from Washington, Katherine worked for Iowa Public Service for 15 years. The couple then purchased a farm northeast of Charles City and moved there. They raised cattle, chickens and cats, and Katherine worked at First Security Bank for 24 years, until her retirement. Kenneth preceded her in death in 1978, but Katherine remained on the farm for five years, raising chickens and selling eggs. Katherine enjoyed reading and doing volunteer work at her church, St. John Evangelical Lutheran in Charles City. She traveled extensively to places like Norway, Sweden and the Holy Lands.

Living family members include her sister, Borghild Wingaard of Eagle Grove; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; a brother, Norman; and sister, Anna Norem.
