Marian Havens, 84, Belmond, died September 18, 2006 at the Belmond Health Care Center. Funeral services were held September 22 at the United Church of Christ-Congregational in Belmond with Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery.
Marian Dylorus, the daughter of Lloyd and Gladys Garver, was born July 21, 1922 at Clearfield, Iowa. She graduated from Corydon High School and attended Iowa Methodist, AIB in Des Moines, and Parsons College. Marian married James Havens on May 27, 1945. Jim started in the dry cleaning business with Marian's father in Corydon for nine years. In 1956 they came to Belmond and began Model Dry Cleaners, which they operated side by side.Marian loved her family, music, dancing, teaching her grandchildren to play the piano, reading, needlepoint, knitting, and watching her grandchildren in all their activities and sports. She really loved the Hawkeyes. Marian was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational in Belmond for more than 50 years. She was a charter member of Chapter LV P.E.O. for 57 years as well as a member of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years.
Preceding Marian in death were her parents; her husband; infant son James Dennis; and nephew James Burger. Survivors include her children Don (Judy) Havens of Belmond, Mark (Terri) Havens of Belmond, and Susan (Kent) Johnson of Wapello; grandchildren Rita (Geoff) Simmons, Sarah Havens, Michael Havens, Andrea and Karra Johnson, and Travis and Derek Havens; great-grandchildren Emma, Sally and Ben Simmons; sister Donna (Ed) Huston of Oklahoma City; and niece Jane (Chuck) Collier of Edmond, OK.
