Gwyneth Maxine McCoy, of Hampton, died Monday, November 21, 2005, at the Westview Care Center in Indianola. Services were held on Wednesday, November 23, at the Church of Christ in Hampton with burial in the Hampton Cemetery.
Gwyneth Maxine Brewster was born on December 15, 1924, the daughter of Ivy Lloyd Brewster and Minnie Garrison Brewster. After graduating from the Hampton High School, she worked at Swartz's Clothing Store in Hampton for a time. On February 1, 1948, Gwyneth and Merritt McCoy were married. They resided in Hampton for the first 11 years of their marriage. The family moved to Clarion in 1959 where Merritt and Gwyn lived the rest of their married life. Merritt worked as the assistant county engineer for Wright County until he retired at the age of 70 and Gwyneth served her family as wife, mother and homemaker. After Merritt died in July, 2003, Gwyneth moved to Carlisle to live with her daughter, Lori and her family. After surgery, and due to her failing health, she moved to the Westview Care Center in Indianola in August 2005, where she was eventually cared for by Hospice of Iowa. Gwyneth became a Christian as a young girl and was a life long member of the Hampton Church of Christ, where she served by playing piano for worship services for over 50 years. All her life she also found great joy in her pets and in conserving wildlife in God's natural plan.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins; a brother-in-law, Martin McCoy; and husband, Merritt. She is survived by two daughters, Lori Cox and husband, Gary of Carlisle and Cara Flavio and husband, Max of Concord, Illinois; eight grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and a sister-in-law, Rosalie McCoy of Hampton.
