Gladys Jeanette Summers, 103, of Belmond, died May 15, 2005 at the Belmond Health Care Center. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 18th at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Belmond. Rev. Rod Hopp officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to be given to the Wright County Hospice, Trinity Lutheran Church,or the donor's choice.
Gladys Jeanette Roseland was born March 24, 1902, in Eagle Grove, the daughter of John J. and Gertrude (Christopherson) Roseland. Her mother died when she was eight days old and she was raised in the foster home of Rasmus and Brita Vevle of Eagle Grove. Gladys was united in marriage to Hiram Austin Summers on February 20, 1924. To this union, four children were born.
Gladys was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond, Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary, Senior Citizens, Grandmothers Club and the Trinity Lutheran Church Women.Gladys is survived by two sons, William (Bill) Summers of Wichita Falls, Texas; Robert (Bob) Summers and wife, Carolyn of Belmond; two daughters, Bernadine Cooke and husband, Bob of Belmond; Elaine Lester and husband, Norman of Goldfield; sister-in-law, Lila Roseland of Eagle Grove; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; and six step great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; foster parents; husband; sisters, Jennie Willard, Clara McCormick and Agnes Hoffbuhr; half-brother, Arthur Roseland; daughter, Bea Landerman; three grandsons, Duane Summers, Baby Summers, Scott Landerman; one granddaughter, Roxanne Summers; and one great-grandson, Jeremy Williams.
