Dorothy D. Hanson, 94, of Clarion, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at the USA Health Care Center in Clarion. Private family graveside services will be held at a future date at the Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion with Pastor Gary Boen officiating. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to her family.
Dorothy O'Brien was born in Des Moines on December 15, 1910, the daughter of Dean and Dolly Adams O'Brien. She received her education in the Des Moines Schools and later worked at Central National Bank in Des Moines. Dorothy married Elmer Hanson of Kanawha on December 13, 1930. Mr. Hanson was employed by the Iowa State Banking Department and they lived in Centerville, Sioux City and later in Rapid City, South Dakota where he worked for Standard Oil. They moved to Kanawha in 1941 when Elmer's father retired and Elmer was president of the bank there for 28 years before retiring and moving to Clarion in 1969. Elmer passed away in 1986 and Dorothy moved to the Meadows in August, 1993. Dorothy was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Clarmond Country Club, Belmond Country Club and the Senior Citizens group.
She is survived by three children, Robert and Shirley Hanson of Crocker, Missouri, Kathryn Hanson Leonard of Lewisville, Texas and Margaret and David Zeigler of Clarion; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Martha Hanson of Britt.
