Sadie B. Swenson, 94, of Belmond, died February 12, 2005 at the Belmond Health Care Center. Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 15 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Belmond. The Rev. Rod Hopp officiated at the 1:30 p.m. service. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery.
Sadie TerHark was born July 27, 1910 at Germany Valley, Illinois, the daughter of Anno and Jenny (Aldrich) TerHark. On January 4, 1934, she and William Swenson were united in marriage. William passed away August 31, 1969. Sadie lived at Lake Cornelia until moving to the Belmond Retirement Apartments. She then moved to the Belmond Health Care Center and had resided there for the last two years. Sadie served as a housekeeper for many families in the Clarion and Belmond area. She was an excellent cook who worked in many area restaurants. After retiring she was known to lend her culinary skills to others. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years, a member of the Mary Circle, Belmond Hospital Auxiliary, the Belmond Historical Society and a past Noble Grand of the Odd Fellows Association.
She is survived by two daughters, Genevieve Larkin of Belmond and Karen Miller of Muskogee, Oklahoma; son, Richard Swenson of Marion; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Sadie was preceded in death by her husband, William; son, (William) Bill; a grandson, Todd Larkin; son-in-law, Bernard Miller; three sisters and eight brothers.
