Royce A. Tomson, 85, Fort Dodge, died April 25, 2002 at Friendship Haven. Services were held April 29 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Fort Dodge with Rev. Kathy Reid officiating. Burial was at the Immanuel Reformed Cemetery, rural Belmond, with military rites provided by VFW Post 1856 of Fort Dodge.

Royce Albin, the son of Albin and Emma (Dorenkamp) Tomson, was born July 27, 1916 in Belmond. He began his education at Hickory Grove and then attended Belmond High School. After graduation he worked as a salesman for the Nissen Packing Co. in Webster City. He married Mildred Frohling on June 14, 1939 in Belmond. In 1945 he joined the United States Army and served in central Europe during WW II. He was awarded four bronze stars and the bronze star medal. After being honorably discharged in 1945, he was employed by the government meat grading service in Waterloo. In 1962 he transferred to Fort Dodge and retired in 1976. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Masons, Elks, NARFE, AARP, and the Men's Garden Club.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Robert. Survivors include his wife, Mildred of Fort Dodge; three sons and their wives, Royce and Lynn of California, Farol and Kathleen of Florida, and Rodney and Ruth of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
