Dorothy M. Gabrielson, 69, of Belmond, died Friday, January 18, 2002, at the Belmond Health Care Center. Funeral services were held on Monday, January 21, 2002 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Belmond with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery. Music was provided by Eldoris Bunnell, accompanist and Marilyn Janssen, soloist. Ushers were Loren Bamford and Francis Morris. Casketbearers were Tom Halfpap, John Hinman, Scott Hinman, Kevin Kew, Jeff Gabrielson and Chris Ward.

Dorothy, the daughter of Alvin and Fannie Bruns Halfpap, was born January 26, 1932, in Pleasant Township. She grew up in the Belmond area and attended country schools. Dorothy graduated from Belmond High School in 1949. She attended La James Beauty School in Mason City and worked as a beautician for several years. Dorothy married Wilmer Gabrielson on June 26, 1949, at the Immanuel Reformed Church. The couple made their home in Goodell before moving to the farm near Belmond in 1970. Dorothy was employed as a bookkeeper for We-3 before retiring due to ill health. Dorothy was raised in the Immanuel Reformed Church and was most recently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a past member of P.E.O. She enjoyed collecting antiques, traveling and golfing.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Wilmer; two sons: Joel and wife, Kathy, of Story City, and Mick and wife, Nancy, of Belmond; seven grandchildren: Holly and husband, Tony, Jeff, Robyn, Stephanie, Sara, Chris and Abby; two sisters: Imogene Hinman and husband, George, of Belmond, and Geraldine Halfpap of Des Moines; and a brother, Alvin Halfpap and wife, Mary, of Boone.
