Jane McFadgen, 82, a singer and record promoter, died Saturday in Northwestern Memorial Hospital. During the 1930s, Mrs. McFadgen, under the show business name of Jane King, was a staff singer on WJJD-AM radio. She also sang minor roles with the Chicago Civic Opera. Born in Dike, Iowa, she was a 1929 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa. She taught for a brief period in the public schools in Goldfield, Iowa, and later served as a supervisor of music in the Dundee, Ill., public school system. In 1931, Mrs. McFadgen moved to Chicago, where, in addition to her singing, she worked with Radio Guide, a forerunner of TV Guide. She worked with RCA-Victor recording company as a record promoter during the 1940s. Her last position was with Keystone Broadcasting System in Chicago, where she worked for more than 30 years, until her retirement in 1987. Survivors include a nephew and a great-niece. Funeral services will be private.
