Gladys May Kottler, 97, of Clarion, died Thursday, February 5, 2004 at the USA Healthcare Center in Clarion. Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 10th at the United Methodist Church, Clarion. Pastor Don Morrison officiated at the 10 a.m. service. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion.
Gladys M. Kottler was born July 14, 1906 in Swea City the daughter of John M. and Anna (Langley) Kottler. She moved to Clarion in 1910, where she continued to live for all of her life. In March of 2001 Gladys fell and broke her hip. She moved into the USA Healthcare Center in April, where she lived until her recent passing.
At the age of 13 she was baptized and joined the United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Grace Stockwell Circle, the sewing group, Women’s Christian Temperance Union, Heritage Club at First National Bank and the Classic Club of Brenton. Her hobbies included crocheting, quilting, knitting, gardening (especially flowers) and general crafting. Gladys enjoyed spending a lot of time with her nieces and nephews. She also loved traveling throughout the United States. She had visited every state in the union except three.Gladys is survived by two nephews, Charles Robert Stecher and wife, Gladys of Ottawa, Illinois and John William Stecher and wife, Evelyn of Des Moines; two nieces, Dianne Dorsey and husband, Tom of Clarion and Dawn Kottler of Ames; 15 great-nieces and nephews along with numerous great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Acelia; a brother, Lester and an niece, Holly Ann.
