Leta Iris Holden, 84, of Goldfield, died Sunday, January 18, 2004 at the Humboldt Care Center South. Funeral services were held Thursday, January 22 at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial was in the Troy Township Cemetery south of Eagle Grove.

Leta Iris Gibson was born April 18, 1919 in Elkhart, Indiana the daughter of Gerald O. and Ida Mae(Clagett) Gibson. During the 1920's they moved to Buffalo, New York and then during the depression they moved back to Milford, Indiana, where Leta completed her education. Leta married Clyde H. Downes in 1936. They later divorced. On December 24, 1955, Leta married Paul F. Holden in Angola, Indiana. During World War II Leta worked as a final finish inspector for marine trucks International Harvester. She also worked in merchandising for Grand Leader and Goldplats. Leta and Mary Sampson were part owners of "M Bar L" in Eagle Grove. Leta was a member of the United Brethren Church of Salem, Indiana. She spent much of her middle life assisting and caring for her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Paul of Goldfield; two sons, Gerald H. Downes of Marion, Indiana and Duane G. Downes and wife, Arlene of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two stepsons, Larry Holden and wife, Linda of Convoy, Ohio; Barry Holden of Iowa City; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Kyle Gibson of Sacramento, California; one sister, Alice Stetz of Eagle Grove and two aunts, Margaret Clagett of Clarion and Charlotte Clagett of Boone. Leta was preceded in death by her parents and one son, William Downes.
