Leslie F. “Skeez” Hartsock, 88, of Clarion, died Monday, March 26, 2001. Leslie F. Hartsock was born June 10, 1922. He was born on the inaugural day of “Gasoline Alley”. Hence the family nickname of Skeez which stuck for a lifetime. He was born and reared in Clarion, but was educated by the world of science, art and literature. He was a master of many disciplines and with almost all of these he could give you a spontaneous one hour lecture at a drop of a hat. He served his country doing photographic intelligence work during World War II in Europe. To his friends and family he was beloved for doing things his own way and in his own time. He was a counselor, educator, innovator, inventor and confidant to many. Never could it be said that he wasn’t ready to lend a hand, a shoulder or a financial boost to those who asked his help. He will be missed. The family is deeply grateful to those physicians, nursing and hospice personnel who cared for him in his last few days of life. He was cremated and will be interred with his sister and nephew in the Birdsall-Hartsock family plot in May. A memorial service will be held at that time to which all his many friends will be invited. Those wishing to give a memorial are asked to donate to the local Hospice group in his name. He is survived by a nephew, Thomas H. Joyce, III, M.D.
