Emerson LeVay Bernard passed away on November 7, 2005 at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines after a lengthy illness. Emerson (Barney) was born November 7, 1921 at Woolstock, IA to Arthur and Myrtle (Nickles) Bernard. He graduated from high school at Woolstock, Iowa. He served in the Navy in WWII in the South Pacific aboard the USS Tern and USS Pensacola. He retired from Woodford Manufacturing. Emerson served as a trustee and usher at Trinity Lutheran Church. He was also an avid baseball fan. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Belva Frances (Myers) Bernard; three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Susan, William and Margaret, Alan and Carly; three granddaughters and four grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Myrtle Bernard; sister, Berniece Summers and niece, Marsha Summers. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 10 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3223 University, Des Moines. And internment at Graceland Cemetery, Webster City at 2 p.m.Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or The American Cancer Society.
