Dorothy Marie Davis, 78, a resident of Atrium Village, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at her residence surrounded by her family. At her request, no services will be held. Burial will take place in conjunction with the University of Iowa Deeded Body memorial services held next year at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to American Cancer Society, Iowa City Hospice or Hills Atrium Village. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Dorothy's family and her arrangements.

Dorothy Marie Jessen was born June 7, 1926, the daughter of George and Viola Jessen, in Murray, Iowa. She attended schools in Murray and in Wayne, Neb. She graduated from Drake University in Des Moines and did her graduate work in Laramie, Wyo. For many years, she taught schools in Scranton, Iowa, and in the Eagle Grove School District in Woolstock and Vincent, Iowa. She was married to Michael Mickelson until his death in 1965. From this marriage their son Dennis was born. In 1972, she married Gerald Lee Davis, and they moved to Fairfield Bay, Ark., where she worked at Belden Cord plant until she retired in 1989. After the death of Mr. Davis in 1999, Dorothy moved to Hills to be near her son, Dennis. Her family includes her son, Dennis Mickelson of Iowa City; four sisters, Betty Powell of Osceola, Irene Brand of Des Moines, Martha Davidson of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Marion Stearns of Osceola; along with a host of other family and friends.
