Rev. Daryl Merwyn Schmidt, 88, passed away on January 2, 2003. Daryl was born on the family farm near Ocheyedan, Iowa on October 27, 1914 to Fred and Anna Schmidt. After attending school in Ocheyedan, he graduated from Concordia, St. Paul, MN., then Concordia Seminary, St. Louis in 1943, and was subsequently ordained. He married Elsie Scheidt on August 8, 1943 at Marion, SD.

He served parishes in Woolstock, Mapleton, and Ames, Iowa before relocating to Colorado in 1956. He helped organize and establish two new mission congregations: Faith Lutheran in Woodland Park, and Rock of Ages Lutheran Church, where he continued to serve occasionally after retirement in 1976. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lois and wife Elsie. He is survived by brother Donald, sister Arlene, children Julianne Hall, Steven Schmidt, and Kathleen Menzel, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at Evergreen Funeral Home on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.. Funeral services will be held at Rock of Ages Lutheran Church, 120 North 31st Street at 10:00 a.m., Monday. Memorial gifts for the support of Concordia Seminary and missions of LCMS may be sent to Rock of Ages Lutheran Church.
