May 12, 1999Gary H. Hanus, 58, Riley, Kansas, died Tuesday May 11, 1999 at Mercy Health Center. He was born Feb. 28, 1941 at Woolstock, Ia. He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam conflict. He was a carpenter and had worked for several different contractors on jobs at Manhattan and Fort Riley. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local #918 in Manhattan. He married Leona Kay Belin August 27, 1966. She survives of the home in Riley. Other survivors include one son, Gary H. Hanus Jr., of Salina; one daughter, Amber Sechrist of Bonner Springs; two brothers, Harold Hanus and Melvin Hanus, both of Webster City, Ia.; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Riley Presbyterian Church in Riley with the Rev. Margaret Wooten officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Riley Cemetery. Friends may call anytime at the Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday. A memorial has been established for KSU Basic Cancer Research.
