December 29, 1992Gary C. Carpenter Sr., 63, of the 900 block of Washington Drive, an automobile body repairman, died Dec. 27, 1992, in a hospital. Mr. Carpenter was born in Woolstock, Iowa, and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was employed with Norview Body Shop. Survivors include his wife, Gladys Poston Carpenter; three daughters, Gail Welker of Greensboro, N.C., Robin Cross of Waukegan, Ill., and Gariann Melton of Chesapeake; a son, Gary C. Carpenter Jr. of Chesapeake; his mother, Fern I. Shrewsbury of Chesapeake; three sisters, Cleo Brennan of Norfolk, Danna Cross of Chino, Calif., and Dianna Ohland of Des Moines, Iowa; a brother, Marlin Carpenter of Wilmington, N.C.; and nine grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hampton National Cemetery by the Rev. Ernest L. Trueblood. Friends may join the family in Hollomon-Brown & Snellings Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, from 4 to 6 p.m. today.
