E. Paulyne Machacek, 87, a resident of the Woodlands, Meth-Wick Community, died Friday evening, Feb. 18, 2005, at the center following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Gary Sneller of Cedar Christian Church. Burial: Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Survivors include her son, Jack Machacek of Waubeek; daughter, Jill Walsh and husband Pat of Cedar Rapids; a granddaughter, Kerry Walsh of Decatur, Ga.; and a grandson, Benjamin Walsh of Cedar Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; a brother; and her husband of 53 years, Stanley, who passed away in 1995.
E. Paulyne Matheson was born June 27, 1917, in Goldfield, Iowa, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Reid) Matheson. She married Stanley F. Machacek on Sept. 26, 1942, in Cedar Rapids. Paulyne attended American Institute of Business in Des Moines until going to work for the Iowa State Employment Service. After working there for two years, she received an appointment to work for the Social Security Administration in Baltimore, Md. She was later transferred to Cedar Rapids to assist in opening the local Social Security office. She later worked for the local post office until retiring in 1980.
