Carol F. Richards, 83, of Genoa died Saturday, March 20, 2004, at her home. She was born Dec. 15, 1920, in Goldfield, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Genevieve Fightmaster. Graduate of Paw Paw High School, Class of 1938. Carol married Jason E. Richards Sept. 4, 1948, in Denver, Colo. She worked at Turner Brass in Sycamore and during World War IIwas employed at Mechanics Universal Joint in Rockford. She worked at various places in Denver, Sterling and Glenwood Springs, Colo., before moving to Genoa in 1955. She then worked at Genoa State Bank, Falls Products and Argo Products, and was a legal secretary for attorney Charles Nelson and later for O'Grady and Cromley Law Office in Genoa for 20 years, retiring in 1986. She was a very active member of Faith United Methodist Church, Genoa. Carol donated much of her time to Genoa schools, helping students with reading. She loved to play bridge, cook, sew and enjoyed traveling. Survivors include sons, Douglas (Alyce) Richards of Belvidere, Gregory (Sherry) Richards of Oregon and Steven Richards of Sycamore; stepsons, Michael (Sue) Richards of Roscoe and Paul (Letha) Richards of Edgerton, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; great-granddaughter, Allyson Hope; sister, Roberta Richards of Janesville, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents; husband, Jason, in 1996; and a sister and two brothers. Service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, in Faith United Methodist Church of Genoa, with the Rev. Daniel Diss officiating. Burial in Genoa Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, in Slater-Butala Funeral Home, 132 W. Main St., Genoa, IL 60135. Memorials to Faith United Methodist Church or Genoa-Kingston Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home.
