December 12, 2003Margie C. Miles-Halvorsen, 91, formerly of Columbia, died Dec 8, 2003, in Visalia, Calif.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Merle Hay Funeral Home in Des Moines, Iowa. Burial will be 1 p.m. at Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield, Iowa. Mrs. Miles-Halvorsen was born Sept. 7, 1912, in Goldfield to Charles and Ina Cleveland. She was a graduate of Northwestern College in Minneapolis, where she earned a degree in theology. She moved to Columbia in 1940 and lived here for 52 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Her first husband, James Scott Miles, preceded her in death in 1967. On April 15, 2000, she married Arlin Halvorsen of Salem, Ore., and he survives. Other survivors include two sons, Gene Miles of Mount Angel, Ore., and Doug Miles of Lenexa, Kan.; a daughter, Marlene Frohmuth of Visalia, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Marlene Rhodes of Salem, Ore., and Kathi Couture of Wheaton, Ill.; four grandchildren; and five step grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph and Sid Cleveland; her sister, Ruth Lyons; and her stepson James T. Miles.
