Elizabeth Finnette Whyte Pojman, age 89, was born November 8, 1911, in Goldfield, Iowa, and died peacefully on August 18, 2001. She was the daughter of John S. Whyte and Ruth MacEachreon Whyte of Goldfield, Iowa, and wife of Joseph L. Pojman, all deceased. She attended Grinnell College in Iowa, where she met Joe, and they were married August 30, 1931. Elizabeth, "Betty" to their many friends moved from Rockford, Illinois, to Austin, in 1951, and founded Rockford Furniture Company in Austin. They enjoyed bridge and travel and she was a consumate mother and homemaker. Her church, Westminster Presbyterian Church, was important and she served in many capacities and was a deacon. She enjoyed her volunteer work as a "Robin" at St. David's Hospital, her friends in Chapter R, P.E.O, and her sewing club. She is survived by her brother, John S. Whyte Jr., of Goldfield, Iowa; three children; eight grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren: Ruth Ann P. Coffey, her husband, Bill and their children, Michael and Becki Coffey, Bill and Sandra Coffey and son, Lucas, Tim Coffey and son, Austin and Cindy Coffey, all of Austin, Penelope Elizabeth P.McAdams and husband, Baker and their children, Natalie McAdams, Mark McAdams and wife, Lisa and son, Jack of Houston and Santa Monica, California, John Joseph Pojman and wife, Linda and their daughters, April and Amber of Littleton, Colorado, and Fort Bragg, California. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Brighton Gardens on Spicewood Springs who lovingly cared for Elizabeth, especially Thomas Thompson, Sylia Vigneault, Odessa Rice and her own personal angel, Emma Laboy. A service celebrating her life will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3208 Exposition, at 11:30 a.m., September 1, 2001.
The family will receive friends in the Church northex at 11:00 a.m., and friends are invited to Ruth Ann and Bill's following the service. Contributions in her honor may be made to P.E.O. Scholar's Fund in care of Eleanor Luke, 500 Harris Road, Austin, 78705.
