Doris Zastrow Linehan, 83, a volunteer and Northern Virginia political activist, died of lung cancer Sept. 6 at the Hospice of Northern Virginia. Mrs. Linehan, who lived in Arlington, was born in Goldfield, Iowa, and attended Drake University. She moved to the Washington area in 1949. For the last 15 years, she had directed membership services for the Northern Virginia Democratic Club, and she also had been active in voter registration programs and poll watching. In the late 1960s, she was a member of the Arlington Democratic Committee. Mrs. Linehan was a precinct captain for Northern Virginia Fair Housing in 1965. She did volunteer work for Arlington FISH (For Instant Sympathetic Help), which provides transportation and emergency food for people in need. Her husband of 56 years, Edmund John Linehan, died in 1995. Survivors include four children, Sister Elizabeth Ann Linehan of the Religious Sisters of Mercy of Philadelphia, Mary L. Fissell of Falls Church, Thomas W. Linehan of Arlington and James E. Linehan of Annapolis; a brother, Lynn W. Zastrow of Ventura, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
