He was born Aug. 21, 1903, in Goldfield, Iowa, the son of Taylor and Adeline Isabelle McCleery Beveridge. He married Elizabeth V. McLaughlin on Aug. 22, 1928, in Sparta. She died in May 1972. Survivors include one son, James M., Heyworth; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; and one brother, Paul, Palo Alto, Calif. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Mr. Beveridge was a 1924 graduate of Monmouth College in Monmouth. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, which became the United Church of Heyworth, for more than 55 years, serving eight terms as elder and singing in the choir for nearly 50 years. He was a member of the McLean County Farm Bureau and Illinois Press Association. He was on the original library board that established the Randolph Township Library. Over the years, he belonged to many civic organizations, including president of the Heyworth Lions Club. He served on several Heyworth school committees and was the official scorer for basketball games for many years. He and his wife purchased the Heyworth Star newspaper in 1934. He was publisher and editor until 1972, when he turned the business over to his son. He worked at the Star part time until his full retirement six years ago. The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers to the United Church of Heyworth organ fund.
