Services for Thomas Walter Thorn, 59, of Shasta Lake will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Allen & Dahl Funeral Chapel in Redding.The Rev. B.J. McCarty of the New Hope Tabernacle in Shasta Lake and members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 20th District Honor Guard will officiate.Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Burial will be at Lawncrest Memorial Park in Redding.Mr. Thorn died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at SunBridge Care Center for Redding following a long illness. Born July 7, 1942, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, he moved to Shasta County in 1991 from Eagle Grove, Iowa. He was an owner/operator of Stro-Jo's Restaurant in Eagle Grove, a maintenance man for the Best Western Hotel in Redding and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors include wife Betty; sons Gerald of Korea and Ray of Redding; daughters Judi Poling of Placentia and Cindy Gaither and Sherry, both of Shasta Lake; brother Ronald of Houston; mother Shirley Thorn of Eagle Grove; and 10 grandchildren.Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, Cancer Research for Children, 3290 Bechelli Lane, Redding, CA 96002.Arrangements are being handled by Allen & Dahl Funeral Chapel in Redding.
