Dr. Frederick Billings Goslin, 78, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died of cancer on March 1, 2005, in Panama City, Fla. He was born Oct. 16, 1926, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, and graduated in 1944 from Ames High School, where he met his future wife, Marilyn Jean Forsyth, whom he married in 1948. After serving in the Army during World War II, Dr. Goslin graduated from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1952, completed surgical residencies, and became a very successful career Air Force physician, retiring as Tyndall AFB Hospital Commander in 1985. Dr. Goslin was a pioneer in many aspects of his professional and personal life. He developed several vascular grafting techniques, graduated as a SCUBA instructor from the second-ever National Association of Underwater Instructors' class, and attained a multi-engine instrument private pilot's license. He was a compassionate caregiver, a good friend, and an avid dog lover. He was preceded in death by his son, Scott Ross Goslin, formerly of Cedar Rapids; his daughter, Dr. Teri L. Goslin, formerly of Globe, Ariz.; and his loving wife, Marilyn. He is survived by his son, Colonel (ret) Mark L. Goslin of Sarasota, Fla.; four grandchildren, Mark T. Goslin, Joshua Goslin and Jason Goslin of Cedar Rapids and Sara Goslin Neff of North Liberty; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church, 3308 E. 15th St., Panama City, FL (850-785-5272). Inurnment services will be held in Cedar Rapids at a later time.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Dominic's Catholic Church.
