Dale A. Nebel, 89, of Wayland, died Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at Henry County Hospital in Mount Pleasant. Born Feb. 9, 1916, in Olds, he was the son of Daniel W. and Alice Ida Roth Nebel. Mr. Nebel taught elementary school at Stringtown and West Lincoln in Johnson County; taught junior high in Wayland; and was principal at Eagle Grove and Hoover School in Mason City. He continued with higher education as an instructor at North Central Community College, assistant professor/associate professor of education at Bethel College in North Newton, Kan., associate professor in the College of Education, University of Northern Colorado, adjunct professor of linguistics, University of Wyoming, and professor emeritus of elementary education at University of Northern Colorado. He graduated from Wayland High School and attended Iowa Wesleyan College, Iowa State Teachers College, University of Iowa, Drake University and received his doctoral in education from the University of Northern Colorado. He was a member of Eicher Mennonite Church and served as director of MCC relief units in China and the Philippines from 1946 to 1949. He also was the Far East area director of MCC relief work from 1953 to 1954. Following retirement he moved back to Wayland. He enjoyed family geology. Survivors include one brother, Raymond Nebel of West Chester; one sister, Katherine Stoops of Wayland; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. today at Eicher Mennonite Church near Wayland, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Nebel will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Eicher Mennonite Church, with the Revs. Herb Yoder and Chuck Visser officiating. Burial will be in Eicher Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Parkview Home and the Eicher Cemetery Association.Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland is in charge of arrangements.
