Earl Johnson , 84, of Nicollet and formerly of Winnebago, died Sunday, January 22, 2006 at his home in Nicollet. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, at the Basey United Methodist Church in Winnebago with Pastor Wane Souhrada officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 3:30 - 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet and will continue from 9 - 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Basey United Methodist Church in Winnebago. Earl is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Robert McGlynn of Minneapolis and Pat and Gary Thompson of Nicollet; five grandchildren and their spouses, Scott and Ronica McGlynn of Minneapolis, Sarah and Mike Warren of Minneapolis, Brad and Kim Thompson of Wausau, Wisconsin, Amy and Dana Barfknecht of Parkers Prairie, Brenda and Justin Laven of Nicollet; one great-grandchild, Tyler Laven; a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Velda Johnson of Fairmont and a sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Ervin Mitchell of Fairmont. He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Johnson on November 11, 1991, brothers Harold, Lester and Kenneth Johnson, and sisters Fern Jordahl and Effie Sandum.

Earl Clifford Johnson was born March 24, 1921 to Harry and Anna (Loux) Johnson in Eagle Grove, Iowa. At the age of 1, his parents moved to a farm northwest of Blue Earth. In 1936, they moved to a farm east of Truman, in Nashville Township. He graduated from Blue Earth High School. He joined the 8th Air Force and was stationed at Miami, Florida and then overseas in Norwich, England. He was discharged in October 1945 and spent a few months working for Fred Schofield until he started farming in Blue Earth County and then in Martin County. Earl farmed in Nashville Township until retirement in 1986. He married Inez Winch, daughter of Emma and Bert Winch on October 16, 1943. Earl loved to garden and fix anything for anyone. He was a member of the Winnebago and Fairmont VFWs, the Lewisville and Nicollet American Legion Posts; and the Basey United Methodist Church.
