Dorothy Ann Heard, age 80, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2004, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg, where she was taken care of and loved by all. She was born on Oct. 10, 1923, in Lake Mills, the daughter of Iver L. and Rose Josephine (Sanvik) Moen. Dorothy graduated from Lake Mills High School, attended Waldorf and earned her two-year teaching degree from Simpson College. Dorothy taught elementary education in Woodside Elementary School in Des Moines and then in Moline. After taking care of her brother-in-law for a year she moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa to teach. While teaching in Eagle Grove, she met and married Harlan L. Heard on Jan. 23, 1949. Dorothy and Harlan resided in Eagle Grove until 2002 and then moved to Middleton Glen, Middleton. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove and recently became a member of Asbury Methodist Church in Madison. Dorothy is survived by her children, Linda (Doug) Tuffree of Middleton, Paul Heard of Urbandale, Iowa, Laura (Jim) Gorman of Palatine, Ill., and John (Nancy) Heard of Redmond, Wash.; six grandchildren, Nikole and Jenny Tuffree, Ryan, Jason and Jacob Heard and Lisa Heard. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Harlan in January 2004. Memorial services will be held at ASBURY METHODIST CHURCH, 6101 University Avenue, Madison, on Thursday, May 6, 2004, at 2:30 p.m. and at UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 421 W. Broadway, Eagle Grove, on Saturday, May 8, 2004, at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center, 5395 E.
