MILDRED GRANDGEORGE

WOOLSTOCK IOWA Mildred Marie Grandgeorge, the daughter of Owen and Sylvia (Goodrich) Hammitt, was born June 12, 1922 at Lehigh, Iowa. She attended school in Lehigh and graduated from Normal Training Teaching program in Webster City. She then attended the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Mildred taught in rural schools in Webster and Hamilton counties during the 1940?s. Mildred was united in marriage to Clarence LeRoy Grandgeorge on May 26, 1944 at Lehigh. They farmed in the Woolstock area for many years. Mildred was a member of the Woolstock American Legion Auxiliary where she served as Poppy Chairman and Historian. She was also a member of the Ban de la Roche (Woolstock French Club) serving as secretary and on various committees, the Woolstock Senior Citizens Center and the Woolstock United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. Mildred enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, baking, and gardening. Mildred passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at her home in Woolstock at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence in 1990; two sisters, Florence (Hammitt) Rehnblom and Lucy Hammitt; and three brothers, W.E. Hammitt, Orville Hammitt and Dean Hammitt. Survivors include her three children, Sylvia Grandgeorge and Joel Wirth of Marshalltown, Alice Grandgeorge of Vernon, CT, and Roger Grandgeorge and wife Fran of Clarion; four grandchildren, Keith Grandgeorge and wife Joy of Clarion, Lori Demuth and husband Ben of Eagle Grove, Nathan Wirth and wife Jennifer of St. Louis, MO and Adam Wirth of Cedar Rapids; two great grandchildren, Jordan and Chelsea Grandgeorge; one brother, Charles Hammitt and wife Mary of Florida; brother-in-law, Dean Grandgeorge and wife Evelyn of Woolstock; two sisters-in-law, Joann Hammitt of Lehigh and Janet Hammitt of California; and many nieces and nephews.Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, September 5, 2006, 10:30 a.m. at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove with Pastor L.J. Hartley officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in the French Cemetery at Woolstock. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
