Alice Electa Laub was born in Franklin County, Iowa, February 21, 1898, one of twelve children born to James and Carrie Bartholomew Hawe. She was raised in Franklin County and received her education there. On October 12, 1926, Alice was united in marriage with Henry Clay Laub at Dows, Wright County, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Henry Clay and Donna Rae. Mr. Laub was a civil engineer and they made their home in Denison before moving to Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie, Iowa in 1943. Following the death of her husband Henry, April 15, 1971, Alice made her home with her son in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota later moving to her daughter’s home in Tabor, Fremont County, Iowa. Since 1981, she had resided at the Tabor Manor Care Center. Alice died Wednesday evening September 30, 1987, at the Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Fremont County, Iowa. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 89 years, seven months and nine days. She was an active member of the Fifth Avenue Methodist Church in Council Bluffs. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, nine sisters and two brothers.She is survived by her son, Henry Clay Laub and his wife, Sandra of Minneapolis, Minnesota; her daughter Donna Rae Shadden and her husband Jack of Nodaway, Adams County, Iowa; four grandchildren: Matthew and Laura Laub of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Kelly Shadden and his wife Rita of Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska and Patrick Shadden of Nodaway. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Graveside funeral services were held at 2PM Friday, October 2, 1987 at the Oakland Cemetery in Denison, Crawford County, Iowa with the Reverend Lauris Meek officiating.Serving as pallbearers were Jack Shadden, Kelly Shadden, Patrick Shadden, Matthew Laub, Merle Bertilson and Adrian Bertilson.Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery in Denison.The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
