Aged Rowanite is Buried Monday

D A French was born May 30, 1858 in Geneseo, OH. He came to IA with his parents when he was six years old, settling on a farm near Alden in Harden Co. Three years later they moved to Wright county and he has lived in this community for the past 83 years. In 1880 he was united in marriage to Eliza Stearns, who preceded him in death. Three children were born to this union, 2 who died in infancy and their daughter, Ola, Mrs. William O'Laughlin of Riverside. In 1906 Mr. French was united in marriage to Mrs. Minnie Temple, who preceded him death, passing away in 1943. One sister, one brother and his parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter Mrs. Ola O'Laughlin, two sisters, Mrs. Ola Dayton of Chicago, IL and Mrs. Bell Tower of North Lawrence, NY, a brother Eugene of New Orleans, LA, 2 granddaughters: Mrs Pauline Arthur of Wash. & Mrs Maxine White of Algona, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr French has been a member of the Dows Masonic organization for 50 years and very active in the civic and community activities of Rowan, contributing also to the work of both churches. He passed away at his home in Rowan, February 10, 1951 at the age of 91 years, 8 months & 10 days. The last rites were held Monday in the Rowan Congregational Church with the Rev Harold Sanders and Wilbur Egeland officiating. The bearers were Messrs. D. K. Stout, George Pritchett, Herman Fruh, Charles Keith, Henry Wansel, and Herb Hadley. Internment was made in Rowan Graceland cemetery. Out of town folks attending the funeral of D. A. French Monday afternoon were Mrs. Maxine White of Algona, Dr. E. G. Lots, Messrs. Robert Crafton, Elmer Charlson, Carl Weber, Rev. Brough, Mrs. Charles Peddle and Mrs. Harm Brinkman of Dows; Mrs. Mary Polmateer and son George Polmateer of Belmond.
