The Valley Chronicle, St. Charles, Ill.
1 Feb. 1884

Charley Acers, one of our Blackberry boys, is a train dispatcher at Eagle Grove, Iowa, at a neat little salary of $70 a month. A few years ago he was working at the hotel for his board and attending school. Crocker, the principal, advised him to study telegraphy and obtained the night operator's permission. In about a year he passed examination and was given the St. Charles office. He was transferred two or three times until he was stationed at Geneva, where he remained until Boynton, late Geneva agent of the C.& N.W., induced him to accept his present position. Charles is a right good boy and we are glad to see him reap the reward of his attention to business.
