Born Oct. 27, 1866, at London, England. Educated in the common schools. Entered railway service 1880 as machinist apprentice Chicago St. Paul Minneapolis & Omaha Rd at Hudson, Wis., and in 1881 was transferred to St. Paul, Minn., where he served as machinist apprentice and machinist until 1887, since which he has been consecutively to May 1889, machinist Chicago St. Paul & Kansas City Ry at South Park, Minn.; May 1889 to March 1891, machinist Northern Pacific Rd at Fargo, N. D., Livingston and Missoula, Mont.; March 1891 to 1893. gang boss Chicago Great Western Ry; 1893 to Nov. 1898, machine shop foreman; Nov. 1898 to May 1900, master mechanic at Des Moines, Ia.; May 1900 to Dee. 15, 1902, master mechanic same road at Dubuque, Ia.; Dec. 15, 1902 to date, master mechanic same road at Clarion, Ia.
