Helen Eliza Lovrien
by Verona Fuller Nies

Helen Eliza, daughter of James Monroe Lovrien and Mattie Imus was born in Faulk County, S. Dak. and moved with her parents to a farm north of Rutland, Iowa when she was three years old. She was graduated from Bradgate High school and then attended Humboldt College and Cedar Falls State Teachers College where she received her teacher's certificate. For four years she taught in the Bradgate area before her marriage on June 2, 1909 to Leo Fuller. They farmed northeast of Bradgate until 1921, then moved to California. In 1922 they returned to Eagle Grove, Iowa and later to the Fuller farm near Bradgate. Retiring from farming in 1946 they moved to Humboldt where they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

As the oldest daughter in the family, Helen helped her mother and took much care of the younger children. Her character and talent for writing are shown in the article "Early Days in Iowa."
