OBITUARY: Thor K. Kravig, Worth County, Iowa
Thor K. Kravig 1862-c1931
Thor K. Kravig, 69, a pioneer resident of Hartland Twp., died at his home
seven miles west of Northwood at 4:30 o'clock last Saturday afternoon after
an illness which has caused him considerable discomfort for the past hree
years or more and which had confined him to his bed for a few weeks prior to
his death.Funeral services were held at the home at one o'clock p.m. Monday afternoon
and at the Silver Lake Lutheran church at two o'clock. There was a large
gathering of relatives and friends assembled to honor his memory. Burial
was made in the Silver Lake cemetery near the church.Mr. Kravig was born October 24, 1862 in Nummedal, Norway and received the
baptismal rites of the Lutheran faith on January 4, 1863. His parents, Knut
and Kari Kravig, and their four children, came t o America in 1866 and
settled in Hartland Twp. , homesteading the farm on which the family has
lived ever since.Thor Kravig passed his boyhood days in working on his father's farm and
attending the public schools. He was united in marriage to Miss Margit
Halvorson in Northwood on March 2l, 1892. This union was blessed with three
children, all of whom survive their parents Mrs. Kravig preceded her husband
in death on January 29, 1928.Shortly after the death of his wife, Mr. Kravig was taken with an illness
which developed into pernicious anemia. While benefit was obtained from
this disease, heart trouble made its appearance and a paralytic stroke
caused his death. His loved ones gave him all the care and attention that
human hands could offer during his last illness.Mr. Kravig was of a quiet nature and is spoken of by those who knew him most
intimately as a kind husband and father and a friendly and trustworthy
neighbor, ready to give a friendly service wherever he could.He leaves to mourn his death his three children, Arthur and Clara, who live
at home and Mrs. Eddie Thompson, Glenville, MN, three granddaughters and one
sister, Mrs. S. Burke of Lidgerwood, ND.
