NORTHWOOD - Kenneth E. Chapin, 85, a resident of the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood and formerly of Manly, died Friday (Nov. 4, 2005) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services for Kenneth will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Bethel United Methodist Church, 503 East South Street in Manly,
with the Rev. Robert Cumings officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.
Visitation will also be held at Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly from 5 to 8 p.m. today. Memorials may be directed to the Kenneth E. Chapin Memorial Fund.
Kenneth was born Aug. 11, 1920, the son of Glenn and Velma (Garrett) Chapin in Floodwood, Minn.
He attended school in Floodwood, Minn., and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1938.
Kenneth was united in marriage to Pauline W. Scarrow on June 1, 1940, at Pauline's parents' home in rural Plymouth.
Kenneth was a farmer most of his life, farming in rural Plymouth area. He also worked for Winnebago for thirteen years before retiring in 1983.
He was a former member of the Plymouth United Methodist Church and currently a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly.
Kenneth loved spending time with his family and was so grateful for all of the family that he had. He liked to bowl, play all sorts of card games,
and enjoyed latch-hooking. Kenneth was also and avid gardener and enjoyed spending time with his pet Chihuahua, Peanut.

Sandra Hitchcock of Federal Way, Wash.
Nancy Cutler and husband, Dan, of Mason City
Connie Lamfers and husband, Vern, of Garner
Debbie Kleveland and husband, Leroy, of Joice
Julie Austin and husband, Jay, of Mason City
Penny Lappe and husband, Duane, of Leland
David Chapin and wife, Lori, of Forest City
Daryl Chapin and wife, Jeannette, of Titonka
Kenneth is also survived by his forty-eight grandchildren;
eighty-eight great-grandchildren;
five great-great-grandchildren;
sister, Doris Grundel and husband, George, of Carpenter;
sisters-in-law, Phyllis Helwig of Mexico, Mo.,
Dorothy Baumgartner and husband, Dave, of Brownsdale, Minn.,
Shirley Snell of Ames,
and Alta May Held of Warsaw, Mo.;
and many other family members and dear friends. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Velma Chapin;
his wife, Pauline;
sons, Glenn and Kermit Chapin; daughter, Betty Monroe and her husband, Wayne;
one granddaughter, Tammy Monroe;
and two other sons-in-law, Lewis Lane and Keith Hitchcock.
