Lorraine Genevieve Thome, 84, of Adams, Minn., passed away peacefully Monday Dec. 19, at the Adams Nursing Home after a short illness.
Lorraine was born Aug. 23, 1927, in Northwood, to Ole and Amy (Hansen) Johnson. She was raised on a farm near Northwood until she lost her mother at the age of 13. The family then moved to a farm near Lyle where she went to live with her Aunt June to finish her high school. On Sept. 26, 1944, she married Wilfred Thome in Johnsburg, Minn. The couple lived and raised their five children on a farm near Stacyville where they had an award-winning herd of Registered Holsteins. In 1992, they retired and moved to Adams. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams, Christian Mothers and the Cedar River Country Club. She enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, playing all kinds of cards, dancing, gardening, lawn work, flowers, baking, embroidering, playing Scrabble, spending time with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren, and traveling. She carried on her Norwegian heritage by making Lefsa, rosettes, and going to lutefisk dinners. She is survived by her five children, Judy (Jim) Dahl of Dodge Center, Minn.; Dean (Elaine) Thome of Stacyville; Jeanette Retterath of Adams, Minn.; Beth Hackenmiller of Owatonna, Minn.; and Amy (Tom) Warrington of Whittemore; 18 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren, one brother, Charles (Pat) Johnson, two sisters-in-law, Phylis Johnson and Betty Johnson, 0ne brother-in-law, Naven Knutson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred Thome, son-in-law Tom Retterath, parents, brothers LaVerne Johnson and Orland Johnson, and sisters Alice Bork and Doris Knutson.Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams with Father Thomas Loomis officiating. Interment was in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Adams. Visitation was held at the Adams Funeral Home on today, Wednesday, Dec. 21, from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour before the service Thursday at the church. Memorials are preferred to Sacred Heart School in Adams.
