Doris A. (Vaughn) Sawin, 91, of Bridgewater, NJ died Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Arbor Glen Retirement Community. A service celebrating Doris's life will be held in Northwood, IA during Memorial Day weekend.
Doris was born in Rolfe, Iowa; attended Iowa State University, and married Russel Sawin on Dec. 7, 1941. They farmed near Northwood and then Kensett, Iowa for thirty-five years before moving into Northwood in 1976. Doris moved to Bridgewater in 2004. Doris enjoyed music and sang in choruses and church choirs from her youth until a few months ago. She was a member of Eastern Star for over 60 years. Her husband, her sister Marjory Hertz, and her brother Alvin Vaughn died earlier. Doris is survived by five children: Polly Tatton (Tom), Stockton, CA; Steven Sawin (Roni), Bridgewater, NJ; Fred Sawin (Betty), St Joseph, MO; Bob Sawin (Mary), Kensett, IA; and Herb Sawin (Ronnie), Chestnut Hill, MA; a sister Louise Oleson; seven grandchildren: Leslie Kepner, Curtis Sawin, Tiffany Brennan, Morgan Sawin, Jennifer Bloss, Nicholas Sawin, Lena Sawin; & seven greatgrandchildren. Arrangements by Bruce C VanArsdale Funeral Home, Somerville.In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the music programs of the Northwood United Methodist Church, Northwood, IA or the Bridgewater United Methodist Church, Bridgewater, NJ.
