Norris Edward Midlang, 89, of Mason City, formerly of rural Kensett, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2005, at the IOOF Home, in Mason City; Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, 4108 Killdeer Ave., Kensett, with Reverend Thomas Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Elk Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 East Spring Street, Manly. The family of Norris Edward Midlang has requested that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of North Iowa, in his memory. Norris Edward Midlang was born on February 20, 1916, in rural Kensett, the son of Leonard and Edna (Evenson) Midlang. He received his education at the Brookfield Township Country School, and graduated valedictorian from Kensett High School. After graduation, he began farming, which he did until his retirement. Norris married Luella Hass on June 29, 1939. They were united in marriage until her death in 1987. In 1988, Norris was united in marriage to RoseAnn Humburg at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City. Norris enjoyed wintering in the southern states, and traveling. He was a remarkable craftsman. He enjoyed woodworking, creating many furniture pieces and items for his family and friends. He was confirmed and a member at the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and couples club. Norris also served on the Kensett Telephone Board, Manly Co-op and Elevator Board, United States Department of Agricultural Commodity Credit Corporation, and the Farmer's Home Administration Board. Norris was especially proud of his plentiful harvests, which one year, won him runner-up in the Worth County Corn Growing Competition.

Left to cherish his mem­ory is his wife, RoseAnn, Mason City; three children, Ronald (Sharon) Lance, Cedar Falls; Donna (Luther) Rhodes, Destin, FL; and Darlene Midlang, North Branch, NY; one step-son, Steve (Connie) Humburg, Norfolk, NE; four grandchildren, Scott Rhodes, James (Rayling) Rhodes, Janice (Jim) Glaspie, and Carina Kaike; and four great-grandchildren, Colby Rhodes, Spencer Rhodes, Danielle Glaspie, and Samantha Glaspie. Norris will also be greatly missed by his brother, Leslie Midling, a sister, Marian Helling, and many nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Luella, and three siblings.
