Death of Mrs. Calvin Finch
Mrs. Calvin Finch passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. H. Walker, in Northwood, Iowa, Saturday, Dec. 31st, 1904, at 2:10 p.m., aged 90 years, 6 months and 9 days. Cause of death was old age and gradual decline. She had been confined to her bed and was practically helpless since last February when she suffered a fall and received permanent injury. She passes away peacefully and quietly, passing into the beyond and to her reward without fear as to what might be in store for her.
Clarissa M. Miner was born at Pharsalie, Chenango County, N. Y., June 22, 1814; she was married to Calvin Finch, Sept. 21, 1838, and came from New York to Northwood with her husband and family in April 1864. They made their home on a farm just north of town for years, living there until the death of Mr. Finch, thirteen years ago. Deceased was the mother of five children, four of whom are living, one dying in infancy. Since the death of her husband Mrs. Finch has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. C. H. Walker, at whose home she died. Deceased was a member of the M. E. church for over fifty years, and was a sincere Christian lady and a most lovable and womanly woman. She was a home woman, caring little for outside affairs, and it is said that in over forty years she was out of Worth County only once. Four children, Mrs. Jennie Slosson of California; Mr. E. C. Finch of Northwood; Mrs. Hattie Bigelow of California; and Mrs. Julia Walker of Northwood, are left to mourn her loss. Hosts of friends join in expressing sympathy to the bereaved ones. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the late home of deceased conducted by Rev. A. B. Curran, and the remains were laid to rest in Sunset Rest Cemetery.
