Northwood, Iowa; May 8. - August Herman was shot and killed by his wife, here, as the result of a family quarrel. The couple have not got along very well of late, having had numerous quarrels, according to neighbors. Mrs. Herman claims she shot in self defense.
[According to the 1900 federal census, Worth County, August Herman was born March 1862 in Germany. His wife was Bothilde Herman, born 1863, Germany. They had six kids in 1900]Elgin Echo, Thursday, 15 May 1902.
August Herman, a German farmer living near Northwood was killed May 8. He had driven his eldest son from home during the morning and at 4 p.m. threatened to shoot his wife. She attempted to snatch the gun from him and in the scuffle the gun went off, killing Herman almost instantly. He was a violent and abusive character. The Coroner's jury found the shooting accidental.
