NORTHWOOD: Dean Merle Ashland, 46 of Northwood, died Monday evening at Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis after a long illness.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Born in Clear Lake, March 25, 1918, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Ashland. He was graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1935 and was married to Eleanor Higgins of Goldfield in 1940. He was in the U.S.Air Force during World War II and was commissioned a lieutenant.

Surviving are his wife, a son, Marlyn; a daughter, Janet, Mason City; his father and stepmother, Clear Lake and six brothers, Maj. Maurice Ashland, Boise, Idaho; Paul, Harold and Frank, Rapid City, S.D.; Roger, New Providence, N.J.; Danny, Wapello; and a sister, Linda Rae, in New York City. His mother preceded him in death.
